Two mountain marmots were found in September in San Francisco and Antioch, California, far from their usual alpine habitat, apparently after hitching rides on vehicles. Wildlife officials are working to determine how the animals traveled to the Bay Area. The unusual sightings have drawn attention because marmots are rarely seen so close to urban centers.
