mosquito vectors

Health researchers in Laos are working to identify which mosquito species are present along the country's porous borders, whether those insects carry mutations conferring resistance to the insecticides used against them, and where climate change might spread them next. The concern is a vector community that is more diverse and more genetically varied, making malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases harder to control in the region.

A Los Angeles Times commentary argues that theeco-horror genre no longer feels far-fetched, pointing to real-world examples such as disease-carrying mosquitoes, rabid bats and increasing bear attacks. The piece links these unsettling events to climate change, which is shifting habitats and expanding the range of pests and wildlife encounters, making fears once confined to film and fiction feel increasingly grounded in daily life.
