quetzal

The Birdtober drawing challenge has begun, and day one features the resplendent quetzal. Participants are sharing nature illustrations of the bird, which is the national emblem of Guatemala and was considered sacred by the Maya. The quetzal is described as monogamous and frugivorous, with artists citing Wikipedia for facts and linking the event to Inktober-style daily drawing prompts.
