A Texas-based startup has been awarded a contract by the US Department of Defense to recover scandium, a rare metal used in aerospace, defense and clean-energy technologies. The award reflects growing US efforts to secure domestic supplies of critical minerals currently dominated by foreign producers, and to strengthen defense supply chains.
