smart ball chip

A smart sensor chip designed for NBA basketballs has reportedly been reduced to just one gram, a weight considered light enough for game use, with a targeted debut in the 2027 season. The development would let leagues track ball movement, spin and contact data in real time during official play, opening new possibilities for officiating, broadcasting and performance analytics across professional basketball.
