Labor history commemorations are marking the Lawrence, Massachusetts textile strike of 1912, known as the Bread and Roses strike. On September 30 of that year, some 12,000 mill workers walked out to protest the arrests of two strike leaders, and police responded by clubbing and arresting strikers. Posts recounting the strike say its demand for dignity and better conditions still resonates with workers and unions today.
