Trump names Jay Clayton to lead new federal AI task force

Original: Trump names national intelligence director Jay Clayton to lead a new federal AI task force

President Trump has appointed Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, to lead a newly created federal task force on artificial intelligence. The move places AI coordination under an intelligence official rather than a technology-focused agency, and it is drawing attention for what it suggests about how the administration intends to govern AI development, security and federal policy going forward.

Why now: It signals how the Trump administration plans to organize and oversee artificial intelligence policy at the federal level.
