U.S. deports immigrants to countries it warns Americans to avoid
Original: U.S. sends immigrants to countries it warns Americans not to visit
The U.S. government is deporting immigrants to countries that the State Department itself warns Americans not to visit because of safety concerns, according to reporting highlighted by Times of San Diego. The practice has drawn criticism for sending people to places the U.S. considers dangerous, raising questions about the treatment and protection of those removed from the country.
Why now: The contradiction between U.S. travel warnings and its deportation destinations is drawing attention amid ongoing debate over immigration policy.
