Iran Demolishes Gohardasht Prison Watchtower, Raising Evidence Concerns
Original: Iran demolishes Gohardasht Prison watchtower, putting evidence of regime’s crimes at risk
Iranian authorities have demolished the watchtower of Gohardasht Prison, a facility long associated with the 1988 mass executions of political prisoners. Human rights advocates warn the demolition could destroy or compromise physical evidence of abuses committed there, complicating future efforts to document and pursue accountability for the regime's past crimes.
Why now: The demolition is seen as potentially erasing evidence of human rights abuses at a notorious prison.
