Virtual reality can trigger mystical experiences, study finds
Original: Virtual reality can induce mystical experiences, new study suggests https://www. psypost.org/virtual-reality-ca n-induce
New research suggests virtual reality can induce mystical-type experiences in users without the use of psychedelics. The findings point to VR technology as a potential tool for studying altered states of consciousness, spirituality and religion, raising questions about how immersive digital environments can replicate feelings of transcendence, unity and awe typically associated with meditation or psychedelic substances.
Why now: The study's suggestion that technology alone can produce spiritual experiences challenges assumptions about the nature of mysticism.
