Father Marcelo Rossi declares vote for Lula
Original: Father Marcelo Rossi declares vote for Lula.
Brazilian Catholic priest Marcelo Rossi has publicly declared his vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Rossi is one of Brazil's best-known religious figures, with millions of followers, so an open political endorsement from him carries significant weight in a country where evangelical and Catholic leaders often influence voters. The declaration is drawing strong reactions from both supporters and critics ahead of the election.
Why now: A high-profile religious figure openly backing Lula is politically significant and controversial in Brazil's polarized climate.
