Spotlight Director Says Catholic Church Hasn't Done Enough to Protect Children
Original: ‘Spotlight’ Director Says The Catholic Church Hasn’t Done ‘Enough’ To Protect Children From Sexual Assault 10 Years After Film’s Best Picture Win: ‘Not Until Every Child Is Safe’
Tom McCarthy, director of 'Spotlight,' which won the Best Picture Oscar for its portrayal of the Boston Globe's investigation into clerical abuse, says the Catholic Church still has not done enough to protect children from sexual assault, ten years after the film's victory. 'Not until every child is safe,' he said, arguing that reform and accountability within the Church remain incomplete a decade after the movie brought the scandal to a global audience.
Why now: The tenth anniversary of the film's Best Picture win has prompted its director to publicly criticize the Church's continued failure to fully address abuse.
