Chris Rock compares woke culture to Salem witch trials
Original: Chris Rock compares woke culture to Salem
Comedian Chris Rock has drawn a comparison between woke culture and the Salem witch trials, suggesting that modern social shaming echoes the seventeenth-century hysteria in which people were punished on accusation alone. The remarks have sparked debate online, with supporters reading them as a defence of free speech and critics arguing the comparison trivialises both history and present-day concerns.
Why now: A high-profile comedian publicly criticising woke culture fuels ongoing arguments over free speech and political correctness.
