Russia targets Ukrainian power grid ahead of winter
Original: Russia aims to plunge Ukraine into winter darkness with mass power grid attacks
Russia is carrying out mass attacks on Ukraine's power grid, aiming to leave the country without electricity as winter sets in. The strikes follow the pattern of previous campaigns targeting energy infrastructure to disrupt heating and daily life for civilians. Ukrainian officials have warned of a difficult season ahead as repair crews work to restore damaged facilities.
Why now: Renewed Russian strikes on energy infrastructure are raising fears of a winter blackout campaign in Ukraine.
