A Canadian internet user is recalling the days when provincial second-level domains like .sk.ca and .on.ca existed under Canada's .ca registry, and expressing disappointment that the Canadian Internet Registration Authority stopped registering them around 2010. The user says any .sk web address now reads as Slovakia, not Saskatchewan, and is calling on CIRA to consider bringing back provincial domain names.
Why now: Nostalgia for defunct Canadian provincial web domains and debate over whether CIRA should revive them.

- Whenever I see a .sk domain I get excited and think it’s a Saskatchewan website. I remember back in the day there were . sk.ca and . on.ca domain names. I found CIRA stopped registering them in 2010. So that’s sad! @ cira would be cool to bring it back! #tech #canada #internet · plzupgrademe@fedi.txw.ca · 2
