Yemen's Saudi-backed government launches offensive against Houthis
Original: Yemen’s Saudi-backed government announces major offensive against Iran-backed Houthis
Yemen's internationally recognised, Saudi-backed government has announced a major military offensive against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement, according to early news reports. Details about the scale, location and timing of the operation remain limited, and the Houthis have not yet responded publicly. The announcement raises fears of renewed large-scale fighting in Yemen's long-running war.
Why now: An escalation in the Yemen conflict threatens regional stability and could affect Red Sea shipping and Saudi-Iran tensions.
