Steve Hilton, a Republican candidate in California, released an ad urging people to 'just try it' with mail voting, a message that has been publicly denounced by fellow Republicans who say it conflicts with the party's long-running stance against mail-in ballots. The spot has drawn criticism and renewed debate within the GOP over election messaging ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Why now: The ad contradicts Republican messaging on mail voting, prompting internal party criticism during election season.
