Ukrainian balloon-borne drones strike R-280 highway route
Original: The R-280 Novorossiya highway today came under attack from dozens of balloons flying from the right bank of the Dnieper,
Dozens of balloons launched from the right bank of the Dnieper attacked the R-280 highway, reportedly dropping Hornet-2 explosive drones and FPV attack copters fitted with Starlink antennas. The incident highlights Ukraine's growing use of balloon-launched systems for long-range strikes, a tactic that is cheap, hard to intercept, and increasingly appearing along the southern front.
Why now: The novel use of balloons to carry and drop attack drones on a Russian-controlled highway is a striking new development in drone warfare.
