Original: From Positions to Alliance… Is the El Alamein Summit Laying the Foundations for a Four-Way Front against Ethiopia?
An El Alamein summit is drawing attention to whether Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan are moving from aligned positions toward a coordinated front against Ethiopia. Commentators are debating whether the meeting lays the groundwork for a formal four-way alliance amid rising tensions over Nile water security and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Why now: Tensions between Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia over the Nile dam and regional rivalries are intensifying, making talk of an anti-Ethiopia coalition topical.
