17 women activists arrested in Iran in September, rights group says
A rights group says Iranian authorities arrested 17 women activists during September. The detentions add to concerns about the crackdown on women's rights campaigners in Iran, where authorities have repeatedly detained activists campaigning against compulsory veiling and for greater freedoms. Details about the women's identities, the charges against them and where they are being held have not been made public.
Why now: Ongoing attention to the repression of women's rights activists in Iran following waves of protests and arrests.
