Quelea swarms fascinate with their liquid-like movements
Original: These swarms of red-billed quelea are crazy to watch. All lined up on fallen tree, and then suddenly explode into a writ
Footage of red-billed quelea swarms is drawing attention online. Thousands of the small African birds line up on a fallen tree before suddenly exploding into a writhing, flowing cloud that moves like liquid until it settles on a new tree. The quelea, often called the most numerous bird species on Earth, forms these spectacular murmurations as a defense against predators.
Why now: The dramatic, hypnotic swarm behaviour of the birds makes striking wildlife viewing that people are sharing widely.
