Tennessee Prepares to Execute Christa Pike
Original: LIVE: Tennessee to carry out execution of Christa Pike
Tennessee is moving ahead with the scheduled execution of Christa Pike, convicted in the 1995 murder of fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville. Pike, the only woman on Tennessee's death row, has spent decades appealing her sentence, and her case has drawn attention from death penalty opponents. Coverage of the execution is being carried live by local outlets.
Why now: Pike would be Tennessee's first female execution in decades, making the scheduled death sentence a major, closely watched criminal justice event.
