Brazil's compulsory voting praised as civic habit
Original: Value The Vote like a Brazilian 8am on a Sunday *compulsory voting* in Brazil be like 😍❤️ We lived through a brutal mili
Commenters are highlighting Brazil's compulsory voting system, describing how citizens turn out en masse on Sunday mornings to cast their ballots. The discussion ties the practice to the country's history of military dictatorship, arguing that the obligation to vote has helped build an enthusiastic civic culture. Posts frame the high turnout as something other democracies could learn from when facing low voter participation.
Why now: People are contrasting Brazil's high mandatory turnout with debates over voting habits and participation elsewhere.
