Young people turning to Mandarin as China's rise fuels anxiety
Original: currently learning mandarin bc my country is due to collapse in on itself and china will be the new superpower
Social media users, particularly in the West, are joking about learning Mandarin in anticipation of their own countries' decline and China's emergence as the dominant superpower. The remarks blend dark humour with genuine unease about political instability, economic uncertainty and a perceived shift in global power away from the United States and Europe.
Why now: The post channels widespread anxiety about Western decline and China's growing global influence, striking a chord with people worried about the future.
