The leaders of Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan have issued a joint declaration as fighting in Ethiopia escalates, calling for negotiations to bring the conflict to an end. The coordinated statement by four of Ethiopia's neighbours signals mounting regional concern that the war could spill across borders and destabilise the Horn of Africa and Nile basin.
Why now: The conflict in Ethiopia is escalating and neighbouring states are publicly coordinating a response, raising fears of wider regional instability.
