Migrants have been taken to Kent for processing after protesters gathered in Gosport, Hampshire, where a boat carrying people had reportedly arrived. The demonstration drew attention to local opposition to small boat crossings, with the RNLI and Home Office drawn into the debate. The episode adds to ongoing political tension in the UK over how arriving migrants are handled and where they are processed.
Why now: Fresh local protest over migrant arrivals has reignited the national immigration debate.
