Yemen plans counter-Houthi offensive as Saudi Arabia pushes diplomacy
Original: Yemen readies a counter-Houthi offensive, but the Saudis still eye diplomacy
Yemeni forces aligned against the Houthis are preparing a military offensive, while Saudi Arabia continues to favour a negotiated settlement to the conflict. The divergence highlights tension between Yemeni partners seeking to regain territory and their Saudi backers, who have pursued peace talks since their 2022 truce efforts and remain wary of undermining a diplomatic path.
Why now: Renewed fighting risks derailing Saudi-led peace efforts, making the split between military action and diplomacy newsworthy.
