Original: Authors detail 2021 NYT-assisted refugee escape from Afghanistan in book talk
Authors of a new book have described how they helped refugees flee Afghanistan in 2021, in an operation assisted by The New York Times. Speaking at a book talk, they detailed the evacuation effort following the Taliban takeover, when thousands of Afghans who had worked with Western organisations sought routes out of the country.
Why now: The book talk is drawing fresh attention to the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan evacuation and the role journalists played in rescuing local staff and allies.
