Original: [World Class] Sookmyung bets Hallyu’s next stage is academia, not just entertainment
Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul is moving to formalise the study of Hallyu, the Korean Wave, treating it as a field of academic research rather than only an entertainment phenomenon. The Korea Herald reports the university is betting the global craze for K-pop, K-dramas and Korean culture can support dedicated scholarship and training programmes. The move signals how Korean universities are racing to institutionalise soft-power industries as demand for cultural expertise grows worldwide.
