A moth recorder in Hastings reports catching six Palpita vitrealis, known as the Jasmine Pearl, in one night, describing the species as a regular autumn visitor to Southeast England. The moth migrates from continental Europe each year and its caterpillars feed on jasmine and olive, but it is not yet considered to have established breeding colonies in Britain.
Why now: Naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts are sharing seasonal moth migration sightings as autumn gets underway.
