Ireland urged to replace beef farming with forestry
Original: # Ireland Replacing beef farming with forestry would boost incomes and help meet climate goals Afforestation is the most
A new argument in Ireland's climate debate holds that converting beef farmland to forestry would raise farmers' incomes and cut emissions. Afforestation is described as the most significant climate mitigation option available to Ireland's land-use sector. The proposal touches a sensitive point in rural Ireland, where beef farming is already financially struggling and land-use change is contentious.
Why now: Fresh reporting on forestry as an alternative to beef farming has reignited debate over land use and climate policy in Ireland.
