The Dutch government has sharpened its advice on screen use, calling on primary and secondary schools to ban mobile phones for the entire school day by 1 January 2027. Pupils would no longer be allowed to use their phones anywhere on school grounds, with devices kept in lockers. The plan extends earlier rules that already restricted phone use in classrooms.
Why now: The announcement of a stricter, nationwide phone ban affects pupils, parents and schools across the Netherlands.
