Garotinho's Rio votes hold key to mayoral runoff
Original: anthony garotinho
Brazil's electoral court is weighing whether votes cast for Anthony Garotinho count in Rio de Janeiro's mayoral race, after a ruling restricted his candidacy. Garotinho has asked the TSE to suspend the injunction, citing the Deltan case. The TSE says his votes remain valid until a final decision, but without them Douglas Ruas would already be elected in the first round, avoiding a runoff. Flávio Bolsonaro accused the judiciary of maneuvering to help Eduardo Paes win.
Why now: A pending court ruling on Garotinho's votes could decide whether Rio's mayoral election goes to a runoff.
