Moldova suspends Palanca checkpoint after Russian shell impact
Original: Moldova suspends Palanca-Mayaki-Udobne checkpoint after Russian shell impact, border guard wounded #Ukraine Moldova susp
Moldova has suspended operations at the Palanca-Mayaki-Udobne border crossing after a Russian shell impact near the checkpoint, leaving a border guard wounded. The crossing, on the frontier between Moldova and Ukraine near Odesa region, has been closed while authorities assess the damage. The incident underlines how the war next door continues to spill into Moldovan territory, raising concerns about the safety of border staff and cross-border traffic.
Why now: A Russian shell hitting a Moldovan border checkpoint shows the war directly affecting a non-NATO, non-EU frontline neighbour.
