Iran escalates Starlink threats amid internet control fears
Original: Iran escalates Starlink threats over fears of losing internet control
Iranian authorities have intensified threats against the use of Starlink satellite internet services, according to Iran International. The crackdown reflects Tehran's concern that satellite links could bypass state control of the internet, allowing Iranians to circumvent censorship and restrictions on communications, particularly during periods of unrest when the government throttles or shuts down domestic connectivity.
Why now: Tehran sees Starlink as a way for Iranians to bypass government internet censorship and shutdowns.
