Puerto Rico is suffering a severe drought, with 37 percent of the island in extreme drought by mid-September. The agriculturally important Lajas Valley in the southwest has been hit particularly hard. Imagery from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite shows how the landscape has dried out, underscoring the scale of the water shortage facing farmers and communities across the island.
Why now: Satellite imagery showing the visible drying of the island's landscape is drawing attention to the worsening drought and its impact on agriculture.
