Italy extends border controls with Spain for third time
Original: BREAKING: Italy extends border controls with Spain for the third time, adding 15 more days as the Ceuta migration crisis
Italy has extended internal border controls with Spain for a third time, adding another 15 days, amid the ongoing migration crisis in Ceuta. The move is being read as another blow to Schengen's free-movement rules, with debate growing over whether temporary checks are becoming a permanent fixture across Europe.
Why now: The Ceuta migration crisis is intensifying pressure on Schengen free movement, and the repeated extensions signal borders may stay closed longer term.
