A 1961 line by Frantz Fanon, "The army and the police are the pillars of the regime", is being quoted in German-language discussion of police and military cooperation on migration between EU states. Commenters draw a line from colonial-era policing, described by Fanon with advice from foreign experts, to today's cross-border migration enforcement and external border policies, questioning their continuity.
Why now: Ongoing controversy over EU cooperation with third countries on migration control invites comparisons to colonial policing.
