Human Rights Must Guide Decisions on Drumcree Parade, Says FIDH
Original: Northern Ireland : Human Rights must guide decisions on Drumcree Parade
The International Federation for Human Rights is calling on authorities in Northern Ireland to ensure that decisions about the controversial Drumcree Parade comply with human rights obligations. The parade, involving the Orange Order in Portadown, has long been a flashpoint between marchers, residents and police. The organisation stresses that human rights standards should guide how such contested parades are handled.
Why now: Fresh intervention by a major human rights body on a long-running and sensitive parade dispute in Northern Ireland.
