Rif Republic centenary marked at PNR conference in Brussels
Original: 105 años de la proclamación de la República del Rif: el PNR celebra su Vi Conferencia internacional de Bruselas 105 años
One hundred and five years after the proclamation of the Rif Republic in 1921, the PNR (Partido Nacionalista Rifeno) is holding its fifth international conference in Brussels to commemorate the anniversary. The event brings together supporters of the Rif cause from across Europe, with discussion touching on Spain, the Sahara and Algeria, and on what organisers describe as curbing Moroccan expansionism in the region.
Why now: The anniversary of the 1921 proclamation of the short-lived Rif Republic has drawn renewed attention to Riffian nationalism and its diaspora activism.
