Indonesia warned against complacency on wildfires despite hotspot decline
Original: Indonesia must keep its guard up against wildfire despite drop in hotspots, environment groups warn
Environment groups are warning that Indonesia must remain vigilant against wildfires even though the number of detected hotspots has fallen. They caution that a temporary drop in fire activity does not mean the risk is over, and that weak monitoring or changing weather could still allow blazes to spread, threatening forests, peatlands, air quality and neighbouring countries affected by haze.
Why now: Fire and haze season concerns in Indonesia draw attention whenever hotspot numbers shift, prompting warnings from environmental groups.
