A 15-year-old schoolboy lost his hand after picking up a police stun grenade during protests by French school students. The incident occurred as pupils demonstrated over education conditions. Prime minister Édouard Philippe has ordered ministers to address students' five major demands, including organising replacement teachers and carrying out school repairs.
Why now: The severe injury of a minor by police ordnance during protests has sparked outrage and pushed the government to respond to student demands.
