Democrats seek to change California's recall process
Original: Schwarzenegger became governor through a recall. Democrats want to change the process
California Democrats are pushing to overhaul the state's recall process, the mechanism that brought Arnold Schwarzenegger to the governor's office in 2003 when voters removed Governor Gray Davis. Lawmakers want to make recalls harder to trigger and change how replacement candidates are chosen, arguing the current rules are too easy to exploit.
Why now: Democrats are moving legislation to reform recalls following recent high-profile recall attempts in California.
