Federal immigration authorities in Minnesota are accused of a 'catch, release, catch' tactic in which detainees ordered freed by federal judges are immediately taken back into custody. Critics, including MPR News reporting on the practice, call it a 'farce' that undermines court rulings. Supporters of tougher enforcement argue it keeps cases from ending prematurely.
Why now: New reporting highlights apparent circumvention of judicial release orders by ICE, fueling debate over immigration enforcement.
