Moldova is targeting completion of EU accession technical negotiations by 2028 and full membership by 2030. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the country has made major strides toward membership. The announcement underscores Chișinău's push to anchor itself in the West amid Russian pressure and follows the opening of accession talks after Moldova was granted candidate status in 2022.

Why now: Moldova's EU accession timeline is a significant step in the country's westward pivot amid ongoing geopolitical tensions with Russia.
