Ukrainian MP says villages are empty

Original: By Mylordbebo: Ukranian MP: “The villages are empty” I mean, if you want Ukraine to just be Kiev without anything else w

A Ukrainian MP's remark that 'the villages are empty' has drawn criticism from commentators who argue the statement reflects how rural Ukraine is being hollowed out while Kyiv receives protection and resources. Critics say that beyond the capital, depopulation of countryside communities shows a very different picture of the country's wartime condition, reducing Ukraine to little more than Kyiv if the trend continues.

Why now: The MP's stark comments about depopulated rural areas have reignited debate over how Ukraine's rural population is faring compared to the capital.
