Ukraine builds own satellite system to cut Starlink reliance
Original: Ukraine satellite system aims to loosen Starlink limits
Ukraine is working to develop its own satellite internet system, aiming to reduce its dependence on Elon Musk's Starlink, which has become critical infrastructure for the country's military and civilian communications during the war with Russia. The initiative reflects concerns in Kyiv over reliance on a single foreign provider and the limits and conditions that come with Starlink's services.
Why now: Ongoing wartime reliance on Starlink has raised fears in Ukraine about dependence on a single foreign provider, prompting interest in alternatives.
