Civil society at a turning point as space for activism narrows
Original: Enabling civil society – time for cake and candles?
UK NGO network Bond is asking whether the moment has come to celebrate and reassess decades of enabling civil society, using the metaphor of cake and candles to mark an anniversary. The piece reflects on how civil society organisations have grown, the shrinking civic space many now face, and what the next phase of support and funding should look like for grassroots groups worldwide.
Why now: Ongoing concerns about shrinking civic space and a milestone moment prompting reflection on civil society's future
