FX's Horror Anthology Marks 15 Years Since It Changed TV
Original: 15 Years Ago Today: FX Changed Horror Television With An Ambitious Anthology Series
Fifteen years ago, FX premiered American Horror Story, an anthology series in which each season tells a self-contained tale with a largely recurring cast. The show's mix of stand-alone storylines, familiar actors in new roles and lurid, cinematic horror helped legitimize horror on prestige television and inspired a wave of anthology programming. Commentators are marking the anniversary by revisiting its impact on the genre.
Why now: The 15th anniversary of the premiere is prompting retrospectives on the show's influence on horror television.
