Is Social Media Bad for Democracy?
The question of whether social media harms democracy is being raised anew, with commentary asking whether platforms' influence on public debate, elections and trust in institutions does more damage than good. The debate touches on misinformation, polarisation and the power of a few companies over political conversation, with no settled answer among observers.
Why now: Ongoing public concern about misinformation and platform influence on politics keeps this debate active.
